A large oval depression approximately 20 metres by 25 metres is visible as a clearly defined earthwork on visualisations derived from lidar data. It is situated in a field south-west of Trentworthy farm on north-west facing moorland.
The earthwork does not correspond with any features depicted on the available 19th century historic maps. The Ordnance Survey 25 inch First Edition map depicts the plot as rough or unimproved ground, which later maps show to have been improved by the mid-20th century.
The depression is interpreted as a post-medieval or 19th century extractive pit that probably ceased to be worked by the 1880s. Nearby subtle earthworks depressions are interpreted to be of geological origin, but its possible they may be evidence of further extractive activity.
