HER Number:MDV129729
Name:Trackway south-west of Loatmead Farm, Bradworthy

Summary

A linear ditch south-west of Loatmead Farm is visible as a subtle earthwork on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2013. It aligns with a road directly to its north, with historic map evidence that it may have joined the road to the south. It is interpreted as a road or trackway of medieval to post-medieval origin that became disused by the mid 19th century.

A north-south orientated linear ditch, approximately 10 metres in width, is visible as a subtle earthwork on visualisations derived from lidar data. The ditch is located in a field to the south-west of Loatmead Farm, adjacent to the road south of Loatmead Cross.
The ditch does not correspond with any features depicted on the available 19th century historic maps, although it does align with an extant section of trackway immediately to the north. To the south it appears to once have joined an extant road, though the southernmost 25 metres is not visible as an earthwork and is depicted as a path on the Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map.
The earthwork is interpreted as a former section of medieval to post-medieval trackway, one of several apparently linking the settlement at West Loatmead with the road to the south-east. This section appears to have become disused by circa 1840.
