A curvilinear ditch circa 6 metres in width and orientated approximately north-south is visible as a subtle earthwork on visualisations derived from lidar data.
The ditch does not correspond to any features depicted on the available 19th century maps, although it is parallel to a field boundary that has since been removed, and spanned the entire width of a former field.
The historic landscape is characterised as rough ground, with an area of medieval enclosures based on strip fields immediately to the north and west. The medieval settlement of Alwynelancauele is recorded to the south-west (MDV16662).
The ditch is interpreted as a field boundary of medieval to post-medieval origin that passed out of use prior to circa 1840, that may have formed part of a medieval field system associated with the settlement.
