An earthwork depression is visible

An oblong depression approximately 20 metres by 8 metres is visible as a subtle earthwork on visualisations derived from lidar data. It abuts the boundary of a field south-west of Newlands Farm.
The depression does not correspond with any features depicted on the available 19th century historic maps and is interpreted as the remains of a probable post-medieval or 19th century extractive pit that ceased to be worked by the 1880s. The termination of the pit at the field boundary indicates the adjacent field was under different land ownership or occupation.
