Summary

Curvilinear and sinuous ditches are visible as dark vegetation marks on digital images derived from 1940s RAF aerial photographs and as earthworks on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2004 and 2013. They are interpreted as possible relict field boundaries of a medieval or post-medieval field system which had partly fallen out of use by the mid-19th century.

The earthworks partly correspond with field boundaries depicted in this location.

The contiguous earthworks measure circa 8m wide and are northeast to southwest and northwest to southeast aligned. They correspond with three field boundaries shown in this location on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe Map. The remaining earthworks do not correspond with any such features on this map or on later available historic maps but are in keeping with the surrounding historic field pattern, which is characterised as rough ground.
The form of the earthwork supports the interpretation that they are possible relict field boundaries of a medieval or post-medieval field system which had partly fallen out of use by the mid-19th century. One of the visible earthworks centred at SS28201064 is, however, of less certain origin and has alternatively been interpreted as a possible 19th century field drainage ditch or a natural channel.
The possible field boundaries have been previously transcribed by the Tamar Valley NMP survey.
