Two sub-oval pits, both circa 20 metres long by 15 metres wide, are visible as earthworks on 1940’s RAF aerial photographs and on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2004 and 2013. The visible earthworks do not correspond with any pit features depicted in this location on the available historic maps, although earthworks labelled as ‘Old Quarry’ are shown in proximity to the south-east and south-west on the late 19th century First Edition Ordnance Survey map.
They are therefore interpreted as post-medieval or 19th century extractive pits which had probably passed out of use by the late 19th century.
The earthworks correspond with features previously transcribed by the Tamar Valley NMP survey. These transcriptions have been superseded by those resulting from this survey.
