A curvilinear ‘reverse-J’ shaped ditch orientated approximately north-south and between circa 3 metres and 6 metres in width is situated in a field east of Upcott and is visible as a subtle earthwork on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2013.
The ditch does not correspond with any features depicted on 19th century historic maps or modern maps, however it does correspond to a bank visible on aerial imagery from the 1940s. It is in parallel to an extant field boundary. The historic landscape is characterised as post-medieval enclosures. A former medieval strip field system is recorded to the immediate south (MDV75376).
The ditch is interpreted as a medieval field boundary that may have formed part of a strip field system, and that passed out of use prior to circa 1840 but remained visible as a bank until the mid-20th century.
