Curvilinear banks, circa 8 metres wide and orientated north-east to south-west and north-west to south-east, are visible as earthworks on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2013. The earthworks occupy an area of circa 2 hectares of gentle north-east facing slope.
The banks to the north partly correspond with field boundaries shown on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe Map. The remaining earthworks do not correspond with any such features on this map, or on later available historic maps, but are in keeping with the surrounding historic field pattern, which is characterised as medieval enclosures based on strip fields.
The earthworks are interpreted as the remains of relict boundaries of a medieval strip field system, that had been largely removed by the mid-19th century. They are probably associated with the remains of strip field systems recorded in proximity to the south-west (MDV129909) and north-west (MDV129912).
Understanding Landscapes Project, 2020-2021, University of Exeter Understanding Landscapes Project - Volunteer data, 427.16 (Interpretation). SDV363949.
Possibly 6 short lengths of strip fields crossed by later ridge and furrow in a field that now appears to be permanent pasture. SX396807.
