Summary

Linear earthwork banks are visible on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2013 and on digital images derived from aerial photographs taken in 2019. Parallel earthwork banks, circa 5m wide, are visible on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2013 and on digital images derived from aerial photographs taken in 2019. The banks are closely spaced and are aligned across the contours of the south facing combe slope, occupying an area of approximately 0.6 hectares.
The visible banks do not correspond with any linear features in this location, although orchards are depicted in neighbouring land parcels to the west.
The occurrence of orchards in this location supports the interpretation that the earthworks are the possible remains of post-medieval of 19th century tree planting banks that had passed out of use by the mid-19th century, the fruit trees having been established on the earthworks for increased soil depth and improved drainage. The earthworks may alternatively be the remains of post-medieval or 19th century narrow ridge and furrow for agricultural improvement.
