A semi-circular pit, circa 16 metres long by 13 metres wide and defined along its eastern edge by a road, is visible as an earthwork on 1940’s RAF aerial photographs and visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2013 and 2016.
The pit corresponds with an earthwork which is depicted on both the early 20th century Second Edition Ordnance Survey map and the 2021 Ordnance Survey MasterMap.
It is therefore interpreted as a post-medieval or 19th century extractive pit that may have passed out of use by the late 19th century.
