Curvilinear ditches and a bank, between 2-5 metres wide and orientated north to south and north-east to south-west, are visible as earthworks on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2013 and 2016.
The eastern extent of the northern-most ditch at SX38158402 corresponds with the corner of a land parcel that is depicted on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe Map. The remaining earthworks do not correspond with any such features on this map, or on later available historic maps, but are in keeping with the surrounding historic field pattern, which is characterised as medieval enclosures and woodland.
The form of the earthworks supports the interpretation they are relict field boundaries that define a series of rectilinear land parcels of a medieval or post-medieval field system, surrounding Ortham farmstead. The field boundaries had been removed by the mid-19th century.
