An irregular shaped depression circa 20 by 9 metres is visible as an earthwork on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2004 and 2013. The depression is situated on the edge of a field on a south-west facing slope east of Leatpark Wood.
The depression corresponds approximately with a small area of rough ground with trees depicted on the Ordnance Survey 25 inch First Edition map and later maps. This area is also demarcated on modern maps as a small rectangular enclosure.
The depression is interpreted as an extractive pit of post-medieval to 19th century origin, that ceased to be worked prior to the late-19th century.
