Full description

East Devon District Council, 2020, East Devon List of Local Heritage Assets (Local List - Register of Heritage Assets). SDV364013.

7A, Moorlands Rd, Budleigh Salterton. Two storey semi-detached dwelling (1929). Designed by architect William Hatchard-Smith, inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement. Details held at the Fairlynch museum. Rendered with slate roof and original vertical tile hangings. Retains most of its original form and interesting architectural detail. Reason for Local Listing is age, aesthetic value and archival interest.

Otter Valley Association, 2020, Ratification of Assessed List of Hatchard Smith Properties, Budleigh Salterton (Local List - Register of Heritage Assets). SDV364220.

Approximate date built: 1929. Two storey semi-detached house designed by architect William Hatchard-Smith. Attached to ‘Curly Dip’. Rendered with slate roof and vertical tile claddings. Retains character, despite alterations to adjoining property, which serves to emphasise the significance of 7A (closest to the road). It has the original slate roof and vertical tile hangings, original timber windows and interesting rainwater goods (marked 1929). The property retains most of its original form and external detail apart from a small black framed rooflight in the attic and 2 fairly discreet meter boxes on the side elevation.
The adjoining property (Curly Dip) has had its windows replaced in UPVC and some other modernisations and extensions, but not much is seen from 7A apart from some new windows from the garden.

Ordnance Survey, 2021, MasterMap 2021 (Cartographic). SDV364015.
