Summary

A series of narrow curvilinear banks are visible as earthworks on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2004 and 2013. The banks correspond with earthworks depicted on historic maps following the River Deer and are interpreted as a flood bank of 19th century origin.

A series of consecutive narrow curvilinear banks between circa 3 and 9 metres in width and forming a feature totalling 760 metres in length are visible as earthworks on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2004 and 2013. The banks are situated on low lying topography immediately adjacent to the River Deer south of Deer Bridge.
The banks do not correspond with any features depicted on the Tithe Map. They are situated across plots recorded as ‘Tetcott Ham’, ‘Lower Ham’ and ‘Lower Tetcott Ham’. The banks correspond with earthworks depicted on the Ordnance Survey 25 inch First Edition map, which continue to be depicted on modern maps. The banks are visible on aerial photographs from the 1940s and dating from 2001 onwards. They have been previously transcribed as part of the Tamar Valley NMP project.
The banks are interpreted as a flood bank likely established as part of 19th century agricultural improvement, that has subsequently been truncated in places.
