Full description

The ditch does not correspond to any depicted features, however it aligns with a section of depicted road to the south.

A 160 metre length of curvilinear ditch had previously been transcribed as part of the Tamar Valley NMP project. This feature has been re-transcribed with greater accuracy based upon recent lidar data as part of the 2020-21 Tamar/Lidar project.

A curvilinear ditch circa 345 metres in length and between 9 and 20 metres in width, is visible as a subtle earthwork on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2004 and 2013. The ditch is orientated approximately north to south across two south-east facing fields north of Lower Horslett.
The ditch does not correspond to any features depicted on the available 19th century maps, however it aligns with a section of track or road depicted to the immediate south. The ditch may extend to join a road to the north. The plot is recorded as ‘Great Ley’ in the Tithe Apportionment. The historic landscape is characterised as post-medieval enclosures.
The ditch is interpreted as a possible trackway or former road of medieval to post-medieval origin, that passed out of use prior to circa 1840.
