An irregular shaped depression circa 45 metres in length and between circa 4 and 13 metres in width is visible as a subtle earthwork on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2004 and 2013. The earthwork is situated in the centre of a field south-east of Court Barn Hotel on a south-east facing slope.
The depression does not correspond with any features depicted on the available historic maps, however it is situated immediately adjacent to a well depicted on the Ordnance Survey 25 inch First Edition map and subsequent maps until the mid-late 20th century. The plot is depicted as parkland until the mid-late 20th century, probably associated with the 19th century Court Barn house.
The depression is interpreted as an extractive pit of post-medieval or 19th century origin. Alternatively, it may be a natural feature that was exploited as a well.
