Parallel linear banks and ditches are visible as subtle earthworks on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2004 and 2013. They are situated in an east facing former orchard south-east of Affaland Cross and are interpreted as planting ridges for orchard trees of post-medieval to early 19th century origin that passed out of use by the mid-19th century.

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

The banks and ditches are situated within a plot recorded as ‘Old Orchard’ on the Tithe Map.

A series of parallel linear banks circa 7 metres in width and ditches circa 3 metres in width are visible as subtle earthworks on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2004 and 2013. They are orientated approximately east-west across an east facing field south-east of Affaland Cross.
The earthworks do not correspond with any features depicted on the available historic maps, however they are situated within a plot recorded as ‘Old Orchard’ of arable cultivation on the Tithe Map (Plot 831).
The earthwork banks and ditches are interpreted as planting ridges for orchard trees of post-medieval to early 19th century origin that passed out of use by the mid-19th century.
