Sub-oval and irregularly shaped pits, between 22-45 metres long, are visible as earthworks on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2010 and 2013.
The visible earthworks do not correspond with any pit features depicted in this location on the late 19th century First Edition Ordnance Survey map, although an earthwork labelled as ‘Sand Pit’ and structures labelled as ‘West Crebor Mine (Copper)’ are depicted in proximity to the north.
They are therefore interpreted as post-medieval or 19th century extractive pits that are possibly associated with West Crebor Mine (MDV12637), but which had passed out of use by the late 19th century.
