Two parallel curvilinear banks circa 5 metres in width and circa 5 metres apart are visible as earthworks on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2013. They are orientated approximately north-west to south-east within a south-west facing field immediately north of Short Burn Farm.
The banks do not correspond to any features depicted on the available historic maps. They appear to be formed over a subtle earthwork bank of a field boundary orientated approximately north-east to south-west (MDV130441). The plot is recorded as ‘Lower Abovetown’ and under pasture cultivation in the Tithe Apportionment.
Given the proximity to the farm, they are interpreted as possible orchard banks of post-medieval origin, or alternatively may be post-medieval narrow ridge and furrow.
