Name:Field boundaries east of Kingswell Farm, Bere Ferrers

Summary

Three parallel curvilinear banks are visible as subtle earthworks on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2013 and 2019 east of Kingswell Farm. The earthworks are interpreted as field boundaries of probable medieval origin that may have formed part of a strip field system and that passed out of use by the mid-19th century.

Three parallel curvilinear banks between circa 7 and 9 metres in width and circa 60 metres in length are visible as subtle earthworks on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2013 and 2019. The banks are orientated approximately north-west to south-east in a south-east facing field east of Kingswell Farm.
The banks do not correspond to any features depicted on the available historic maps, however they are parallel with adjacent depicted field boundaries. The historic landscape is characterised as ‘post-medieval enclosures’.
Some subtler curvilinear banks are faintly visible in the eastern part of the field and in the field to the north, which have not been transcribed.
The earthworks are interpreted as field boundaries of probable medieval origin that may have formed part of a strip field system, and that passed out of use by the mid-19th century.
