An irregularly shaped pit, circa 38 metres long by 18 metres wide, is visible as an earthwork on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2013 and 2019.
The pit partly corresponds with an oval earthwork shown on the mid-19th Parish Tithe Map and late-19th century First Edition Ordnance Survey map, as well as a curvilinear earthwork on the 2021 Ordnance Survey MasterMap.
The earthwork is therefore interpreted as a post-medieval or early to mid-19th century extractive pit that had passed out of use by the mid to late-19th century.
The earthwork is not visible on other available aerial imagery owing to thick tree cover of Ashleigh Blaxton Coppice.
Ordnance Survey, 2021, MasterMap 2021 (Cartographic). SDV364015.
The pit partly corresponds with a curvilinear earthwork.
