---|
Summary
Curvilinear pits, cuttings and banks are visible as earthworks on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2019. They are tentatively interpreted as post-medieval or 19th century extractive workings, although could equally be the result of late-20th or early-21st century forestry operations.

Curvilinear pits, cuttings and banks, between 15-50 metres long, are visible as earthworks on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2019, on a hilltop within Warleigh Wood.
The earthworks do not correspond with any pit or bank features in this location on the mid-19th century Parish Tithe Map, or on later available historic maps.
The origin of the earthworks is largely unclear. They may be evidence of post-medieval or 19th century extractive workings or are the result of late-20th or early-21st century forestry operations.
The earthworks are not visible on other available aerial imagery owing to the thick tree cover of Warleigh Wood.
