Wembsworthy was recorded in 1301 as 'Wymandesworthy' and in 1314 as 'Wymundesworthe'. Also as 'Wemesworthy(e)': 1566 and 'Wemsery': 1599.

There were four tenants at Wembsworthy in 1301 when it was recorded as Wymandesworthy, but only one by 1566. Recorded in survey as a shrunken settlement.
