Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

The plot is recorded as 'Castle Down Plantation'.

The area of the earthworks is depicted as rough ground.

The earthworks are under woodland.

Narrow earthwork ditches forming a curvilinear enclosure are visible.

A series of narrow ditches are visible on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2016 and appear to form a curvilinear enclosure, possibly with a subdivision in its northern part. The enclosure is circa 64m by 46m and situated on low situated south sloping topography in a river valley and beneath woodland southwest of Blackbury Castle Camp (MDV10840). The plot is recorded as Castle Down Plantation on the Tithe Map and partially depicted as rough ground on the First Edition OS map.
The earthworks are interpreted as a possible woodland enclosure of medieval to modern origin.
