Several depressions are visible as earthworks on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2016. The easternmost depression corresponds with an orchard plot recorded on the Tithe Map, and later depicted as an old marl pit on the First Edition OS map. This depression is interpreted as being of post-medieval to early 19th century origin, that ceased extraction prior to circa 1840, after which it was planted as an orchard. The depressions to the west of this do not correspond with any features depicted on historic maps. These are interpreted as further extractive pits, probable also for marl, of post-medieval to 19th century origin.
