Full description
Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.
The bank does not correspond with any features. The plot is recorded as 'Lawn' (Plot 792).

The northern part of the bank corresponds with the curving boundary of a small woodland plot.

A curvilinear bank is visible as an earthwork on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2016 south of Sidbury Manor. The bank does not correspond with any features depicted on historic maps. The banks is situated in a plot recorded as 'lawn' on the Tithe Map, forming part of the grounds of Sidbury House, which was demolished in the 20th century. Its northern part corresponds approximately with a curving boundary of a small plot of woodland depicted on the First Edition OS map.
The bank is interpreted as a field boundary of medieval to 19th century origin, that passed out of use by the late-19th century. It is possible the bank acted as a ha-ha as part of Sidbury House's formal grounds.
