Full description

South West Heritage Trust, 1838-1848, Digitised Tithe Maps and Transcribed Apportionments, Plot 373 (Cartographic). SDV359954.

Rectangular building aligned east-west with small outshut on norther side (eastern end) depicted on the Tithe Map.

Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.

The late 19th century historic map depiction (and later early 20th century edition) largely matches the Tithe Map depiction of the barn. It appears slightly shorter so the eastern end may have been altered slightly.

McKay, K., 1994 - 1997, Dartmoor National Park Authority Farmstead Survey 1994-1997 (Report - Survey). SDV344544.

(09/11/1994) Farmstead survey visit. Outlying barn recorded at SX70316849.

Ordnance Survey, 2021, MasterMap 2021 (Cartographic). SDV364015.

The modern map shows the barn is now adjoined by buildings on the east and south sides.

Vint, C., 2021, Threshing Barn at Higher farm, Scorriton (Un-published). SDV364496.

An 18th century, or earlier, stone threshing barn retaining a large number of features relating to former function, including the hayloft, threshing floor, internal subdivision, openings and evidence of mechanisation. It forms part of the historic farmsteads at Scorriton.
Heritage Statement carried out in June 2021 (AC Archaeology) sets out the architectural, aesthetic, artistic, historical and communal values of building and its setting. The values are of sufficient level to record the building as a non-designated heritage asset.
