Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

The site of the depression is depicted as possible woodland or scrub. The plot is recorded as 'Great Woodlake' (Plot 1594).

An earthwork depression is visible on images derived from lidar data captured in 2016 on the southern slopes of Path Hill. The depression corresponds with woodland depicted on historic maps. Marl pits are depicted both to the northwest and southeast (MDV117109 and MDV117110). The depression is interpreted as a post-medieval extractive pit that ceased extraction by circa 1840, possibly also for marl.
