A large cut depression earthwork is visible in the south sloping hillside at Eppits Land on images derived from lidar data captured in 2016. The feature is situated on the edge of sandstone bedrock of the Upper Greensand Formation and truncates superficial Head deposits of clay, silt, sand and gravel recorded by the British Geological Survey. The feature may be partially or wholly natural slumping, or may be extractive work. Multiple small plots including a copse, orchards and a cottage are depicted within the depression on the Tithe Map, and are visible as earthworks, indicating any extraction pre-dates this period. The First Edition OS map shows several cottages, one of which is called 'Colliers Cottage'. The area developed into woodland over the course of the 20th century.
The earthwork is interpreted as possible large scale extractive work that ceased extraction prior to circa 1840, or may be natural in origin.
