A ditch appears to extend north-east from a depicted drain.

A series of ditches and banks are visible as earthworks on images derived from lidar data captured in 2016. They follow the contours of the north facing slope and do not correspond with any features depicted on historic maps. A ditch appears to extend north-east from a drain first depicted on the Second Edition OS map and down the sloping field, with branching banks either side. One of the ditches is visible on aerial photographs dating from the 1940s and appears to feed a pond in an old marl pit to the east (MDV36551).The earthworks are interpreted as a late 19th to early 20th century catch meadow.
Catch meadows abstracted from springs or streams and redistributed it along channels or gutters to irrigate combe slopes rather than valley floors. Originating in the medieval period they were in widespread use in Devon in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
