It corresponds with a plot recorded as 'Pit Orchard' in the Tithe Survey and depicted as orchard and later woodland on subsequent maps. The depression is interpreted as an extractive pit of post-medieval to early 19th century origin, that passed out of use prior to circa 1840, and after which the plot was established as an orchard.
