The depression is situated in a plot recorded as an orchard.

The plot continues to be depicted as an orchard until the mid to late 20th century.

A rectangular shaped earthwork depression circa 40m by 30m is visible on images derived from lidar data captured in 2016. It corresponds to an section of orchard recorded on the Tithe Map and depicted as an orchard on historic maps until the mid to late 20th century. The depression is interpreted as an extractive pit of post-medieval to 19th century origin, that ceased extraction prior to circa 1840, after which it was established as an orchard.
