The depression is situated within a plot recorded as 'Marl Pit Moor' (Plot 608).

An irregular shaped earthwork depression circa 65m by 30m is visible on images derived from lidar data captured in 2016. The depression is situated within a plot recorded as 'Marl Pit Moor' in the Tithe Survey. It corresponds with a nursery plot set within a woodland depicted on the First Edition OS map and maps thereafter. The depression is interpreted as a marl pit of post-medieval origin, that ceased extraction by the end of the 19th century, after which it was established as a nursery.
