SX51858256 'Stone' (1:1000 scale map 1965).

Hemery, E., 1983, High Dartmoor, 920 (Monograph). SDV249702.

This pillar is one of 46 which marks a boundary of the land purchased by the War Office - the first transaction taking place in 1900 - from the Calmady family, lords of the manor of Willsworthy, for live-firing practice. More land was subsequently purchased; numbered granite posts were erected to mark its bounds, and the whole area was designated 'Willsworthy Range'. The stones were cut and lettered in the locality of Nattor Down and taken by horse and cart to their sites by the late Fred Palmer of Lane End Farm, father of George Palmer of Creason.
