Summary

Red lake 'china clay corporation'. Vis=-/7/1976 (hankin). The china clay works at red lake, in lydford parish (sx647-668-), operating from 1911-1932, sent the liquid clay after mica separation at red lake to drying beds at cantrell in ugborough parish (sx659-566-). Transmission was by a gravity activated pipe-line laid below the surface of the ground for most of its way to cantrell. The course of the pipe-line, which is now extensively fractured, still exists, and can be traced along all its length of 11-12km. The pipe-line enters harford parish at dry lake (sx645-638-) and remains in harford until it reaches the ugborough boundary s of western beacon (sx649-573-), a distance of c 7km. It consists of 2 lines of earthenware pipes, laid alongside one another.
