Two large elongated irregular shaped earthwork depressions are visible on images derived from lidar data captured in 2016. The southern depression is circa 100m long and up to 30m wide. It corresponds with a depicted 'Old Gravel Pit' on the First and Second Edition OS maps. The northern depression is circa 115m long and up to 30m wide. It does not correspond with any features depicted on historic maps. A pond is depicted within it on modern maps. The depression extends into a long drainage ditch leading to the north-west which is depicted on mid-20th century maps and visible on aerial photographs dating to the 1940s.
The depressions are interpreted as gravel pits, one of which may be of post-medieval to 19th century origin, and one may be of post-medieval to early 20th century origin. The depressions may have been interpreted as natural if not for the depiction on historic maps, and one of the depressions could yet be of natural origin.
