Full description

Robinson, R., 1976, Untitled Source (Worksheet). SDV144135.

Site visited on 13/11/1976. Sixteen cairns described from within this field, some more like barrows than others. Diameters vary from 3.0 to 18 metres, heights up to 1.0 metre. Some are almost certainly field clearance. Sketch plan and measurements given on worksheet.

Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division, 1979, SX66NE75 (Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division Card). SDV144134.

In a pasture field are four levelled circular mounds of small stone found during field investigation. At SX69436584, SX69476579, SX69466585, SX69586582. Average 5.0 metres in diameter, 0.4 metres high. It is impossible to say whether they are of prehistoric or relatively recent origin.

Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England, 1985, Aerial Photograph Project (Interpretation). SDV319854.

Not visible on aerial photographs referred to in Aerial Photograph Project.

Griffith, F. M., 1990, DAP/QG, 10 (Aerial Photograph). SDV144136.

Butler, J., 1993, Dartmoor Atlas of Antiquities: Volume Four - The South-East, 161 (Monograph). SDV337765.

A number of cairns have been found within these fields, many are likely to be clearance cairns, rather than genuine burial monuments, especially those around the edges of the fields. Other details: Map 57, 33.

Gerrard, S., 2004, List of Sites Remaining to be Considered for Designation on Dartmoor (Un-published). SDV345444.

This site was considered for designation as a Scheduled Ancient Monument during the Monument Protection Programme. The programme ended before the entire list of sites was successfully scheduled so this is included on a local list of Nationally Important Sites.
