Name:Granite trough 500m west-south-west of Hare Tor

Summary

An unfinished granite trough cut into a large rectangular granite boulder lies amongst a group of large natural slabs and boulders at the foot of a substantial granite outcrop. The trough is only visible as a shallow outline in the top of the boulder indicating that the cutting was abandoned not long after it commenced. The outline which measures 1.35m by 0.4m and is a maximum 0.1m deep shows the cutting marks left by the stone mason. Surveyed as part of the RCHME Willsworthy project in 1998.

(02/09/1998) An unfinished granite trough cut into a large rectangular granite boulder lies at SX 5459984112 amongst a group of large natural slabs and boulders at the foot of a small granite outcrop W of Hare Tor. The trough is only visible as a shallow, rectangular outline in the top of the boulder indicating that work was abandoned soon after it commenced. The base of the rough-out which measures 1.35m by 0.4m is a maximum 0.1m deep and shows the cutting marks left by the mason.
Found by N Hall during field investigation. Surveyed at 1:2500.
