Several earthwork depressions are visible on images derived from lidar data captured in 2016. The earthworks are situated adjacent to trackways through the woodland and range from 6m to 30m across. The trackways are depicted on the Tithe Map and subsequent maps. The superficial geology is recorded as clay, silt, sand and gravel. The depressions do not correspond with any features depicted on historic maps and are interpreted as extractive pits of post-medieval to 19th century origin.
Further earthworks adjacent to a former trackway depicted on the First Edition OS map to the south may be further extractive work or may be natural erosion, and have not been included within the monument polygon at this stage.
