Full description
Probert, S. A. J. + Newman, P., 2003-2004, Measured survey North Dartmoor Military Range Okehampton Range: Monument Baseline Condition Survey (Report - Survey). SDV350801.
(24/10/2003) SX 59339136 to SX 59489107. The remains of a former artillery target railway on the plateau immediately south of Rowtor. This feature survives as a straight, flat-bottomed trench 1.2m wide and around 0.4m deep. A low bank, 2.5m wide and 0.3m high flanks the eastern edge of the trench. Both ends of this feature have been disturbed and there is no evidence to suggest the form of the original mechanism.
The presence of the bank on the eastern lip suggests that firing took place from that side.
A second, and more substantial, target railway (1397720) overlies the southern end of this feature.
