Name:Shelter in streamworks at Swincombe Head

Summary

Remains of a possible post medieval shepherd's shelter situated within Swincombe Head streamworks. An archaeological field survey in 1995 recorded it as a sub-rectangular structure measuring 2.3 metres by 1.6m internally, with walls surviving to a maximum height of 1 metre. Three earthfast rocks form its north and west sides. The south side is formed from coursed blocks of waste material from tin processing.

(12/09/1995) A small shelter lies in Swincombe Head streamworks (Monument HOB UID 1064080) at SX 63376989. The sub-rectangular structure has three earthfast rocks as its N and W sides: The S side is formed from coursed blocks of waste material from tin processing. The shelter is 2.3m NE to SW by 1.6m internally; its walls are 1m wide and 1m high. It was probably used as a shepherd's shelter.
