The channel, measuring on average 1.3m wide and 0.4m deep, originates in a marshy area on the right bank of the Cherry Brook and follows a sinuous course between the 430m and 420m contours until it becomes indistinct within Powdermills Newtake. Its function is unclear but it may have served a 19th century farmstead (SX 67 NW 119) 800m E of Longaford Tor.
