Name:Shell holes on Holne Moor

Summary

A large number of shell holes cover the western third of Holne Moor. They are found singly and in clusters and are generally around 1.5m wide and and 0.4m deep. Their size suggests they are the result of mortar practice probably during the Second World War. Several spent cartridge cases were also noticed during the survey.

(25/04/1996) Centred SX 67107163. A large number of shell holes cover the W third of Holne Moor. Found singly and in clusters these features are generally around 1.5m wide and and 0.4m deep. Their size suggests they are the result of mortar practice probably during the Second World War. Several spent cartridge cases were also noticed during the survey.
