Name:Cairn west of Stalldown stone row, Cornwood

Summary

This small round cairn, diameter 5.7 to 6.4m, height 0.5m, is built of small boulders and lies on a moderate, well drained south-west facing slope at 365m above OD. It contains a cist, the south side stone, 1.2m long, both end stones, 0.4m long, aligned on a grid bearing of 100o. On the south side of the cairn 3 large stones, 0.8m to 1.0m long and set on edge are the probable remains of a kerb.

(10/08/1977) SX 62846231 This small round cairn, diameter 5.7 to 6.4m, height 0.5m, is built of small boulders and lies on a moderate, well drained south-west facing slope at 365m above OD. It contains a cist, the south side stone, 1.2m long, both end stones, 0.4m long, aligned on a grid bearing of 100o. On the south side of the cairn 3 large stones, 0.8m to 1.0m long and set on edge are the probable remains of a kerb.

Cairn with retaining circle enclosing cist placed east-south-east to west-north-west. Diameter of cairn 3.5 metres, height 0.7 metres. (grinsell).

Platform circle. Ring of kerb stones, 4.2 metres internal diameter, enclosing flat-topped cairn 0.35 metres high with central cist.

Cairn '11' at SX62846231 on the west side of the hill was surrounded by a ring of stones. It has been trenched across the centre to reveal the side and end slab of a cist.

This cairn is 6 metres in diameter and 0.5 metres high, with part of its retaining kerb around the mound and three sides of a robbed cist, 1.2 metres by 0.4 metres, remaining in the mound.
