Summary

A turf covered mound is a probable barrow or cairn 315 metres north of Stall Down stone row. This barrow has a spread diameter of 10.5 metres and stands 0.8 metres high. The centre of the mound shows signs of minor disturbance.

Full description

Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division, 1977, SX66SW72 (Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division Card). SDV165479.

(03/08/1977) At SX 63156286 on the north-east slopes of Stalldown Barrow, at 381.0m OD, is a cairn measuring 11.5m in diameter and 0.8m high, discovered by Mr J Turner (a). The top is flat, 6.0m in diameter, and in the centre is an overgrown granite slab, 1.1m by 1.9m, probably the cover-stone of a cist.

This site was considered for designation as a Scheduled Ancient Monument during the Monument Protection Programme. The programme ended before the entire list of sites was successfully scheduled so this is included on a local list of Nationally Important Sites.
