Monument Type(s) and Dates

  • HUT CIRCLE? (Constructed, Bronze Age - 2200 BC to 701 BC)

Full description

Butler, J., 1991, Dartmoor Atlas of Antiquities: Volume Two - The North, 34-35,, Figure 26.1, Map 26 (Monograph). SDV219155.

Hut circle '3' to the south-west of King's Oven is one of several circular plots of 5 to 6 metres across levelled into the hillside which may be the remains of associated huts. This hut '3' has traces of a bank part way round the periphery.

Newman, P., 2002, Headland Warren and the Birch Tor and Vitifer Mines (Report - Survey). SDV363213.

(15/02/2002) There are no certain hut circles within the enclosure on the south-east slope of Water Hill though two parallel walls in the north-west corner could represent a later shelter with internal dimensions of very approximately 7m by 3.5m. It is unlikely to be a hut circle.

Environment Agency WMS, 2019, LiDAR DTM data (1m resolution), 2019 (Cartographic). SDV362956.

Feature visible on Lidar data.
