Summary

Five clusters of tin pits on the slopes surrounding Birch Tor. The pits which are arranged in discrete clusters or alignments, consist of circular depressions of between 1m and 3m average diameter and up to 1.5m deep, though most are shallower. Each has a crescentic collar of spoil on the downslope side. All were certainly prospecting pits of a likely post-medieval date.

(19/07/2001) Five clusters of tin pits on the slopes surrounding Birch Tor. The pits which are arranged in discrete clusters or alignments, consist of circular depressions of between 1m and 3m average diameter and up to 1.5m deep, though most are shallower. Each has a crescentic collar of spoil on the downslope side. All were certainly prospecting pits of a likely post-medieval date.
