Summary

An area of at least 50 circular mounds amidst the peat to the west of Yealm Head identified from lidar imagery of which 22 have been ground verified. Most of the mounds are probably peat charcoal burning mounds of medieval or post-medieval date. Charcoal sampling has confirmed the status of some of the mounds though not the date. Additional mounds not yet ground verified.

SX 60759 64851 An area of at least 50 circular mounds amidst the peat to the west of Yealm Head, visible on Tellus 2014 lidar, and of which 22 have been ground verified. Most of the mounds are probably peat charcoal burning mounds of medieval or post-medieval date. Charcoal sampling has confirmed the status of some of the mounds though not the date.
