Summary

A small length of bank with a gateway survives on the northern bank of the stream just east of the footbridge. The bank is of earth but may have once been faced with stone as there is a lot of tumble. The gateway is 1m wide and a natural earth fast boulder forms one of the gate posts. The total length of the surviving bank is 5m and it runs north-south.

(08/11/2005) A small length of bank with a gateway survives on the northern bank of the stream just east of the footbridge. The bank is of earth but may have once been faced with stone as there is a lot of tumble. The gateway is 1m wide and a natural earth fast boulder forms one of the gate posts. The total length of the surviving bank is 5m and it runs north-south.
The bank is of local importance and its presence indicates that changes in land management and possibly land use occurred in the past. There is no sign of the boundary on the 1st edition OS map (1886) or the Tithe map (1842). Management recommendation is to keep the boundary free of saplings and scrub growth the feature should be excluded from new tree planting.
