Name:Surface excavations in Boro Wood

Summary

Complex, essentially linear series of excavations into east-facing lower slopes, immediately opposite Belford Mill. Series of platforms formed by cutting which extend north-south for some 20m, with an average depth of between 1.5m and 2m. No immediate function obvious, though this probably re[presents trial mine workings. Northern limit defined by beginning of holloway (BW09). Area densely wooded, preservation good.

SX 75347157 Surface excavations. Complex, essentially linear series of excavations into east-facing lower slopes, immediately opposite Belford Mill.
